Tailored Options for Precisa’s Balance Calibration and Services
During our bespoke engineer visits, we offer many different options such as basic calibration services, UKAS and ISO level balance calibration or more specific tailoring to suit a specific requirement. Your accreditation or cerification body should be able to provide information regarding the type of calibration service required for your balance.

This article will take a look at the different types of calibration and related services provided by Precisa, as well as the standard options and alterations offered in a service.
Different types of calibration offered by Precisa…
- As Found – the engineer will simply complete all aspects of a calibration without a service or adjustment. This helps to indicate how the balance has been performing up to this point.
- Post Service – the engineer will perform a limited ‘As Found’ linearity test, followed by a service/adjustment and then a final calibration test of the balance. This is useful in giving an idea of how the balance has been performing up to this point and in between calibrations, as well as tracking the improvement on completion of adjustment.
- Full As Found/Post Service – the engineer will perform all aspects of a calibration both before and after a service/adjustment of the balance. This will provide complete data sets for the balance.
These options are available for both ISO and UKAS accredited calibration. For a basic service, an adjustment is performed where possible but no results are reported to the customer.
Additional services provided by Precisa…
- Check-Weight Calibration – Checks can be performed on check-weights that are used for calibration. This is done via comparison with our engineer’s certified sets of weights, utilising the optimal balance.
- Minimum Weight Check – These checks can be performed in conjunction with calibration and other services, and are required in several industries. The lowest accurate weight that can be measured is reported for the purpose of assessing the accuracy and precision of a balance.
- Verification/ Reverification – This is the process of accreditation, in accordance with NAWI standards, which is necessary to determine whether a balance is “Legal for Trade”. It is required in many industries such as precious metal recovery, pharmaceutical dispensing, bullion and jewellery markets.
- Temperature Check/Adjustment – These checks are specifically for moisture analysers, which utilise a heating element to measure loss on drying and moisture content. In addition to assessing and adjusting the balance element, we can perform checks and adjustment on these instruments to ensure they are correctly achieving/reporting temperature at either standard or specifically requested temperature points (in certain cases some manufacturer models may have limited adjustment options).
There are certain aspects of the above options that will be performed as standard. However, we offer the option of alteration on request, prior to the commencement of work. This may be necessary to better suit the usage or requirement of the customer.
Standard aspects of Precisa’s services and ways they are commonly customised…
- Capacity – Services are performed at full capacity as standard, but can be set at any point in the range on request. However, this is considered a restriction and therefore this point will become the official full capacity for the purposes of the calibration and subsequent operation. The new upper limit will be clearly identified on the balance.
- Linearity – This is an assessment of increasing the weight through the range using single weights (as far as possible). On request specific points in the range can be assessed. These may be where common weight results are achieved or weighing vessels are usually tared.
- Readability – Where readability is poor due to environment or mechanical issues, restrictions can be placed upon the readability to reduce the accuracy but improve the uncertainty. If deemed necessary a balance can be labelled as only accurate to a specified number of divisions.
- Range – All available ranges are performed as standard. If a range is not utilised (on a Dual Range or Poly Range balance) it can be ignored and treated as a single range balance with correct signage to illustrate the restriction.
- Target Weight – Balances can be dedicated to the constant weighing of a sample of a specific target weight. On request we can provide a standard calibration with an additional range dedicated to analysing the balance’s performance at the specified weight.
