Precisa is a leading Swiss manufacturer of analytical and precision balances, and part of the Hong Kong headquartered global Techcomp Instrument Ltd (TIL) Group. The group consists of a range of scientific instrument manufacturing businesses.

We are now looking to hire a Product Manager to cover and develop the global Precisa businesses and support our dealer network with qualified technical knowhow. The role will be based at our Precisa office in Aldingen, Germany, with the expectation of travelling mainly in Germany and Europe, but also internationally to visit group companies and customers when required.

Job Outline

Responsibilities will include:

  • Taking overall responsibility for the international commercial success and budget reach of your product line
  • Supporting the sales team and the dealer network with qualified technical knowhow, marketing material and training
  • Attending conferences and events related to a product or sector
  • Defining, enriching and implementing the operational marketing calendar and budget, or marketing campaigns
  • Elaborating, updating, and distributing marketing material and sales kits
  • Collecting and analyzing user feedback, market and competition research, gathering and evaluating ideas and opinions in order to contribute towards product strategy and vision
  • Creating timelines and roadmaps for developing the product road map
  • Meeting regularly with production and R&D to share and update forecast, lead time and product development
  • Perform sales analysis and contribute to forecast and budget review

In addition, the role may involve giving presentations at user seminars, workshops and conferences throughout Europe as well as attending relevant exhibitions, and so the ability to present ideas and information accurately in a clear and concise manner is critical.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Scientific degree (technical, physics, chemistry, life sciences or similar). Candidates who do not have formal qualifications but can demonstrate relevant work experience will also be considered
  • Experience of working in a laboratory environment, and more precisely weight measurement devices, would be an advantage
  • Native German and fluent English speaking (French would also be an advantage)
  • The candidate must possess a valid EU work permit or EU residency qualification
  • Ability to drive

Reporting ultimately to the Chief Commercial Officer, you will become part of a growing team to provide sales and support of the Laboratory Product Business Unit in Germany, Austria and German speaking part of Switzerland.

As Sales Specialist you will help us introduce new products and grow our market share.  You will also help us to establish new group sales and service facilities in the Frankfurt region to support our growth and be a key member of our sales management team.

Main duties will include:

  • Identify and develop business with customers through direct prospecting and follow up with all enquiries
  • Provide technical support for a wide range of Lab Products including Precision balances, ovens, incubators, deep freezers and more
  • Taking over the management of existing Precisa and Froilabo distribution partners
  • Facilitate product sales through direct and channel partners in the territory as part of product portfolio management and strategy. Notably for some key niche products
  • Recruitment of new distribution partners
  • Assistance and co-ordination of activities and information with the Scottish based marketing and product management team to share ideas and market intelligence.
  • Support and communicate regularly with peers in manufacturing operations in Switzerland, France, Romania and China.
  • Provide support for tenders and opportunities with dealers in the region

Person Specification:

  • A native German speaker
  • Fluent English speaking (French would also be an advantage)
  • Highly driven individual with a track record of over-achieving targets
  • High degree of motivation and energy to generate new sales from initial opportunities
  • Able to work independently and under pressure
  • A good technical knowledge and level of understanding of analytical and life science environments and equipment required. With product training, capable of performing demonstrations and practical support to dealers and end-users.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Outgoing personality with an eye for detail
  • Familiarity with different sales techniques and pipeline management
  • Self-disciplined and able to self-manage day to day activities
  • Willingness to travel regularly in the region, preferably residing near Frankfurt. The expectation is that 70% of your time will be spent outside of the office visiting customers and distributors.

Desired Skills, Qualification and Experience:

  • Scientific degree (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science or similar). Candidates who do not have formal qualifications but have demonstrable experience in the industry and have a good understanding of laboratory environments and their applications will also be considered
  • Experience of working in a laboratory environment would be beneficial
  • Experience in the balance market would be highly advantageous
  • The Company can only process applications from candidates who possess a valid German work permit and/or EU residency qualification

Our ideal candidate will have some previous experience gained from an SME environment, and ideally exposure to a global business would be beneficial. Service and results driven; you will be an excellent communicator with a passion for continuous improvement

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The core function of this job is to focus on weighing products from the Precisa brand, part of the Techcomp Group for products and services.

Approx. 60% of the role will be based in our facility in Livingston, and 40% field based.  The field based activity  involves the calibration, installation and training of weighing equipment to UKAS and ISO9001 standards at customer sites in the UK.

This will primarily be based in Scotland, although additional visits may be required in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.

The Calibration and Test Engineer role complements and supports the function of the International Service Manager & Sales Manager for our UK Distribution business.

Progression with the role will come about with the additional knowledge and skills development with other products from the Techcomp Group such as centrifuges, temperature controlled equipment (such as Freezers, Incubators, Ovens etc.) and Spectrophotometers for example.

 

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform field and inhouse calibrations and service functions at customer sites and office location within a specific geographic area.
  2. Preparation of calibration certificates and service reports to a high standard.
  3. Support of Quality checking all documents performed by other engineers prior to release to the customer.
  4. Perform appraisal, repair and testing of units sent for repair/calibration
  5. Perform quality checking and assessment of new products prior to shipment
  6. Submit accurate and timely paperwork
